FOALLE’S DOUBLE POWERS THE BAY

- By Paul Reece

NORTHERN League side Whitley Bay eased into next round of the FA Cup with an emphatic win at home to Barnoldswick Town. The Seahorses raced into a 4-1 lead at the beak with Olly Martin and Dan Tagart on target along with a brace from Jack Foalle. Zack Dale netted the only goal for the North West Counties league side while Peter Glen-Ravenhill added to the visitors misery with a second-half brace. The Bay opened the scoring in the 13th minute as Olly Martin picked up a loose ball and slotted home past Ryan Livesey. Mark Threlfall almost equalised for Town in the 21st minute but his effort was well saved by Tom Flynn. The home side punished the miss, however, as moments later goalscorer Martin supplied Jack Foalle who tapped home. Dale reduced the deficit in the three minutes later when he ghosted through the Whitley Bay defence before slotting past Flynn. The Lancastrians battled hard but the home side increased their advantage as Martin’s cross was bravely headed home by Foalle for his second on 39 minutes, taking a deflection on its way in. And the Bay added a fourth on the stroke of half-time with Luke Salmon bursting through the midfield before supplying Taggart, who turned and fired home. The visitors started the second half well but were unable to find a way into the game with Whitley Bay still looking the more likely to score as Callum Anderson fired just over. And the North East side ended any hopes of a comeback when captain Glen-Ravenhill slid home their fifth of the afternoon just past the hour. The impressive Martin then almost grabbed his second of the day but his effort was inches wide, before Glen-Ravenhill did net his second moments later after a neat one-two. The Bay skipper had further chances to grab his hat-trick in injury-time – first side footing Salmon’s cross wide at the back post. Martin’s cross then found Glen-Ravenhill but his effort was well saved as the home side progressed in fine fashion.
