ROBINS SEE RED IN COMEBACK

- By Max Chesterton

TEN-man Bideford AFC kept their FA Cup first qualifying round hopes alive with a remarkable late 2-2 comeback against Bristol Manor Farm.

After Owen Howe chalked up the opener from the penalty spot, Bideford’s Ben Carter received his marching orders for a contentious challenge on 30 minutes.

It looked to be over when Ashley Kingdom side footed home with 15 minutes to play, but Ryan Turner and Craig Allan both headed home in the space of the last seven minutes to set-up a replay.

Former QPR youngster, Tyrell Mitford, made it three goals in three games, as he netted an 81stminute winner for

Winchester City in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bournemouth FC.

In a game of few chances, the Poppies squandered several opportunities in the first half.

The match was heading towards a stalemate before City skipper Jamie Barron was brought down in the box and Mitford slotted from the rebound to put his side into the next round.

While Moneyfields didn’t record their best performance in the club’s 31-year history, the Portsmouth-based side did enough to earn a comfortable 3-1 victory over Andover New Street.

Heading into half-time with a 2-0 advantage with goals courtesy of Joe Briggs and Lloyd Rowlatt, Petersfield broke back shortly after the break.

A poor defensive mix-up between keeper Steven Mowthorpe and his defence let the Street pull one back in only their second FA Cup tie in their history, before George Root put Moneyfields out of sight on the counter. Faversham Town ensured their name is in the hat for the ensuing draw with an impressive 41 victory over FA Cup debutants Hackney Wick. Troubled by the higher division side, Wick instantly found themselves on the backfoot after conceding twice inside the first five minutes through Dean Grant and Harry Goodger.

Faversham were out of sight when Luke Griffiths tucked home, before Chris Rolin notched a consolation goal with eight minutes remaining. Faversham’s Ashley Miller made it four at the end.

Barnstaple bowed out of the FA Cup at the first time of asking against step five minnows

Shaftesbury with a 1-0 home defeat.

Shaftesbury were the better side in the early stages and hit the post through Taoufik Ben Salem’s effort.

And Barnstaple found the pace of Ben-Salem and Nathan Connelly difficult to handle and it was Connelly who crossed for Josh Williams to score the decider before halftime.

Barnstaple came out with more purpose in the secondhalf with John Hill in the Shaftesbury goal keeping out the home side’s advances.

Hill was finally beaten in injury-time, but Elliott Whitecross’ effort was cleared off the line by substitute Sam Smith.

Petersfield’s sorry FA Cup fortune continued as they fell to a 3-1 loss to Fleet Town.

Ronan Silva got the home side off to a flier with a genuine goal of the season contender from distance.

Billy Oram doubled their advantage, before Abdul Rajab’s penalty ensured victory on the hour as Rams’ Ryan Kennedy slotted a consolation goal.

Reigning FA Vase champions Thatcham Town’s were held to a goalless draw by two division lower underdogs Bemerton Heath Harlequins. And Sevenoaks Town advanced with a solid 1-0 win against Bedfont Sports.
