UP POPS JACK TO COOK UP A TREAT

- By Peter Moore STAR MAN: Max Kretzschmar (Woking) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★

JACK Cook’s second half double helped Woking fightback to claim all three points and go top of the table.

Jamie Richards gave the visiors an early lead – something they held on to until after the hour mark – when first Kane Ferdinad levelled and then Cook won the game with his late brace.

The Cards had a glorious chance to open the scoring inside the opening two minutes when defender Josh Casey skipped two tackles to find himself inside the six-yard box, he decided to dink the ball past Truro keeper Jojo Wollacott, only to see his effort narrowly go wide of the post.

The White Tigers – who came into this game looking for their first victory of the season – benefited from this let off and broke the deadlock in the sixth minute. A set-piece undid the Cards defence when a corner found an unmarked Richards at the back post, who had the simple task of nodding the ball down past Herbert Schotterl.

The early momentum was very much with the Cornish side who almost doubled their advantage when Schotterl was called into action to deny Tyler Harvey.

Woking were looking a shadow of the side that had suffered just one defeat in the League so far.

The Cards looked very disjointed in the first half ,with passes going astray and certainly the worst half they have played this season.

Manager Alan Dowson sent his troops out early for the second half, after a few words in their ears.

Woking made two changes at the break and hey made an immediate impact, creating three

chances in four minutes. Armani Little had an effort a whisker away, with Casey letting fly from 20 yards out and a Hodges shot well saved by Wollacott as the home side dominated the early exchanges.

Nicky Wheeler was next to try his luck at goal, with a curling effort that dropped inches wide.

The game was turned on its head with two goals in three minutes. A free kick was bundled home by Ferdinand before Kretzschmar’s excellent delivery saw Cook plant a header past Wollacott.

The Cards made the game safe in the 77th minute when Cook popped up in the area to flick the ball past Wollacott, after another excellent Kretzschmar delivery. There was still time for Wollacott to deny Kretzschmar before Hodges was brought down in the box. Up stepped Kretzschmar, but his spot kick was denied by a super save from the City stopper in the 90th minute. It mattered little as Woking recorded their fifth victory of the season. Manager Dowson summed up the performance. “First half not very good, second half good.” “I bought Hodges on as I thought he would win us the game. City interim boss Ben Harding says his side must stop making mistakes. “We must improve on set pieces. It has happened far to many times this season.”
