WELLING UNITED 1 HEMEL HEMPSTEAD 1

DESPITE having by far the better of the match Welling had to settle for a point against a dogged Hemel Hempstead.

In the eighth minute the visitors won a free kick out wide and deadball expert Jordan Parkes sent over a delivery that somehow slotted into the angle between bar and post to put the Tudors ahead.

He then sent one over from the other side that Dan Wilks claimed before Welling levelled.

Danny Mills burst clear but Laurie Walker was out quickly to deflect for a corner.

Welling’s specialist Jack Jebb sent in a dangerous corner that was cleared as far as Brendan Kiernan who showed great technique to hook home.

Walker then made a brilliant save from a Bradley Goldberg shot that was destined for the bottom corner before James Kaloczi was relieved to see a header go wide of his own goal from another dangerous Jebb corner.

After the interval it was a lot tighter. Mills spun well to fire towards goal but Billy Clifford made an outstanding block to keep the scores level and there was not another clear cut chances until the latter stages.

Welling substitute Gavin McCallum had a deflected shot well saved before setting up Mills but he delayed his shot allowing Walker to set himself and save.
