IT’S A KIT OF ALRIGHT FOR CLAPTON – AND DAGGERS!

-

CLAPTON Community FC, of the Middlesex Counties League Division One Central & East, have had to put a hold on sales of their new away kit – after they sold more than 2,500!

The change of strip has been snapped up mainly by Spanish football fans with demand so high they even had to up the price to £25 to meet VAT requirements.

The kit design is based upon the colours of the International Brigade, a group who fought

against fascism during the Spanish civil war in the 1930s.

It also features the slogan ‘no parasan’ which means they shall not pass.

The supporter-owned club formed this year following their dissatisfaction with the way Essex Senior League side Clapton were run and their frustration at being denied fan representation.

Supporters boycotted games last season after what they felt were overzealous security measures, sudden price hikes and decisions made by the club’s administration.

DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE are in advanced takeover talks. The National League side hit the skids last season when their main benefactor pulled out and ahead of the weekend Peter Taylor’s side had picked up just one point from their first seven games.

But there could be good news on the horizon after the club revealed a group of American investors who attended their pre-season friendly with Cambridge United are close to a deal, subject to due diligence and approval of the authorities.

The club said: “We are pleased to advise that members of this consortium visited again last weekend and that negotiations are now at an advanced stage.

“The full terms of the agreement are still being finalised but would see them taking a controlling interest in the club whilst preserving the 26 per cent holding of the Members Club.”
