BEADLE’S DELIGHT AS MCGRATH SEALS POINT

- By Paul Rogers

AFINE volley from Mike McGrath saw Hereford claim a point against a resilient York City.

The midfielder struck 20 minutes after the break after it looked like the Bulls were on course for their third defeat in a row.

Hereford started lively and should have taken the lead as early as the second minute.

Eliot Richards whipped in a free-kick but Harry White somehow headed wide when well placed.

Joe Tait then headed wide for York three minutes later before the away side took the lead in the 24th minute.

Hesitancy from Ryan Green gifted Jon Parkin the ball.

The experienced marksman’s mis-hit shot found Macauley Langstaff, who calmly slotted home.

In the 29th minute, White did well to have a shot on target after battling past a couple of defenders, while six minutes before half time, the striker had a header cleared off the line.

The second half was scrappy, but it was Hereford who were more dangerous in the final third.

Bartlett did brilliantly to Jordan Liburd-Cullinane’s pin-point header before denying Green.

However, Hereford did equalise just two minutes later when McGrath’s shot deceived an unsighted Bartlett from distance.

Cullinane-Liburd and Richards both had late chances, but the home side had to settle for a point.

“We had the upper hand in lots of areas of the pitch and had some very good chances and we finished the strongest, so that says a lot about what we’ve done,” said Hereford manager Pete Beadle.

“Sometimes you’ve got to be patient because these are full-time footballers who train and play every day.

“They are well organised and well drilled, but I thought in general play, we caused them a few more problems than they caused us, and in the end, we probdeny

ably didn’t get quite what we deserved.

“So, we’ve made some big strides from last week because everyone has turned up and performed well in difficult conditions against a team that many have as favourites [for promotion].”

York counter-part Sam Collins knew it was going to be a tough game.

“It will be a difficult place for anyone to get three points and we were aware of that having watched them,” said Collins.

“I thought we were in control for pretty much most of the game.

“They had a couple of chances from set plays in the first half, but I thought we opened them up at times.

“The second half was really scrappy, we never had much control of the ball, although we did have the best chance just after they scored and had a 10minute spell when I thought we looked alright again.

“But I think we would have taken that [a point] before the game because it’s a really tough place to come to.”
