MAX HITS DOUBLE
ABRACE from Max Kretzschmar, after the Cards fell behind, saw Woking extend their lead at the top of the table.
Billericay opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Kane Ferdinand bought down Ricky Modeste inside the area.
Referee James Durkin had no hesitation and immediately pointed to the spot. Up stepped Town’s leading marksman Jake Robinson, who calmly converted.
Billericay’s joy was short lived as the Cards responded quickly. The lead lasted just three minutes when Ferdinand made amends for his error by earning a penalty after being bundled over in the box.
Kretzschmar made no mistake from the spot by drilling his effort into the corner.
Ricay were reduced to ten men in the 58th minute when Tambeson Eyong picked up his second yellow of the afternoon after upending Paul Hodges’ surging run.
With the man advantage, Woking went for the kill, with Greg Luer’s glancing header dropping wide.
Woking took the lead for the first time in the match in the 73rd minute following a shot from Nicky Wheeler, which was parried by Town keeper Alan Julian into the path of Kretzschmar ,who had a simple tap-in for his second of the afternoon.
The visitors were furious that the goal stood, claiming that Kretzschmar was in an offside position, but the goal stood.
With time running out, Ricay had a glorious chance to level when Adam Coombes found himself six yards out but sent a soft header straight into the hands of Herbert Schotteri.
There was still time for Woking to make the game safe when Kretzschmar almost grabbed his hat trick, his stinging shot being steered away for a corner.
With the game into the fourth minute of injury time Town’s best chance of salvaging a point fell to Coombes, but his shot was deflected for a corner as Woking held on to record a valuable win.
Alan Dowson said after the game: “The’ve got better players in their team, but workmanlike we’ve done well well”.
An angry Glenn Tamplin said: “I need to see the penalty and their second goal. I need to go and see the referee and ask him why he was speaking to my players like he was.” STAR MAN: Wheeler (Woking) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
