NAT’S HAT-TRICK SEALS COMEBACK

- By Neil McGowan

NAT Watson was the Basford hattrick hero as they staged a storming comeback to come from 3-1 down at half time to claim victory in a thrilling game.

Basford got off to a flyer and were ahead in just two minutes, Watson scoring at the second attempt after his first shot was saved by Ed Hall.

Farsley came back strongly and were level on 29 minutes, Paul Walker beating Kieran Preston with a shot from distance.

Watson went close to a second but it was the visitors who took the lead six minutes from the break, Will Hayhurst scoring from the spot after a foul.

Hayhurst repeated the trick on the stroke of half time, giving Preston no chance after another foul.

Watson put Basford back in the game on the hour mark, scoring from yet another penalty, and three minutes later they were level, Watson heading home.

Courey Grantham shot against the bar as Basford pressed and Isaac Baldwin cleared off the line from Matt Thornhill’s inswinging corner.

The pressure final paid off and with ten minutes remaining Thornhill met Greg Tempest’s corner at the near post to score with a superb header, a fitting winner.

Farsley did not give up and Ben Atkinson went close with shot but Basford held out to record a memorable win. STAR MAN: Matt Thornhill (Basford) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
