ES DENIED AS MATT FINISHES

Town lose first-half lead

- By Ken Brazier

ENFIELD were denied second spot as Dorking grabbed a point despite the hosts’ first-half dominance.

It wasn’t the first time Towners had done this at home in this young season.

Manager Andy Leese’s feelings were evident when he told The NLP: “It was a frustrating game in many ways and, we could and should have been out of sight by half-time. But that's what can happen if you don't take your chances.

“We probably didn't do quite enough to win. But I've got to be pleased with an average of two points a game during a difficult start to the season.”

Sam Youngs had one early shot blocked and one saved by Wands keeper Slavomir Huk. Then Aaron Greene was inches away from a cross before he scuffed his attempted volley.

Town took the lead after 16 minutes when Sam Hatton converted Remi Sutton’s superb cut-back.

And they nearly went twoup when a powerful low drive from Sam Chaney was well saved by Huk.

Youngs was again thwarted by Huk from close range.

Dorking fashioned a halfchance on the half-hour but Prior's far post header into the danger area was hacked clear.

Wands were more positive after the break. Town keeper Joe Wright raced off his line to clear from James McShane, But Town were still creating chances and Huk did well to punch clear a dangerous ball into the box from Johnson.

On the hour mark Youngs had the ball in the Dorking net shortly afterwards, but the referee had spotted something awry.

And on 67 minutes, Wanderers levelled with their first shot on-target of the afternoon, Briggs timing his run onto a sweeping diagonal ball to stay just onside and, as Wright came off his line, coolly lobbing the ball over him into the net.

The visitors visibly grew in confidence and had chances to take the lead, with Briggs nodding wide and Tom Richards shooting over.

The game began to get scrappy and tension crept in.

Dorking sub Kieran Lavery fired over after a sliced clearance had fell to him, before Town's final efforts, from sub Ryan Blackman and full back Sutton, failed to trouble Huk. STAR MAN: Sam Chaney (Enfield Town) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
