CHESHAM UNITED 2 BIGGLESWADE TOWN 1

- By Simon Newbury

CHESHAM picked up their first win of the season and showed signs of a return to form against previously unbeaten Biggleswade.

Chesham received an early boost with a goal in the fifth minute, when Sam Barker’s shot was blocked into the path of Dejon Noel-Williams who shot into the roof of the net.

On 27 minutes Chesham were convinced they had scored a second but the linesman ruled that Benji Crilley’s close-range effort had in fact not crossed the line.

The Waders’ best moment of the half saw Jonny McNamara head for goal but Alex Tokarczyk saved comfortably.

Chesham made a strong start to the second half with Waders keeper Sam Donkin making a fine save to deny Ryan Blake early on.

Then Donkin again excelled to keep out Benji Crilley’s header from the resulting corner.

Midway through the half Donkin again excelled to tip over a Dave Pearce free-kick that seemed destined for the top corner.

However on 74 minutes Donkin was left stranded as a great shot from Pearce dipped into the roof of the net to make it 2-0.

Four minutes from time the Waders halved the deficit when the ball was eventually bundled over the line in a goalmouth scramble with Connor Vincent seeming to get the final touch.

However, Chesham ultimately held on to claim a place in the FA Cup second qualifying round with what was a deserved win.
