ONE ERROR COST US, MOANS ALLEN

- By Ned Keating

CHESTERFIELD boss Martin Allen says a poor defensive error from Will Evans cost his side all three points at Victoria Road.

The Spireites had taken the lead on 13 minutes when a ball across the box by Lee Shaw was prodded home from close range by Curtis Weston.

However, Chike Kandi equalised for the hosts 11 minutes from time, chipping the onrushing Shwan Jalal from 20 yards after Evans misjudged a header, allowing the Daggers man through on goal.

Had Chesterfield won, it would have been a first victory in eight and just reward for what Allen felt was a strong away display.

“I thought we were more than comfortable and it was a solid team performance. Tom Denton and Lee Shaw did very well up front and worked very hard,” he said.

“It was a very well discipline and organised away 1-0 we were heading for, and one moment of madness on the halfway line has cost us.

“It was a poor decision from Will to go in and win the ball when he could have stood

behind and let the play go on.

“They only had one shot on our goal during the whole game from about 40 yards and it’s gone in.”

As for Daggers boss Peter Taylor, he believes his team were good value for their pointbut was left to reflect on another sluggish start.

“It’s a good draw and a very good point. Chesterfield, I know they’re not on a good run, but they’re a good team,” he said.

“Denton caused us a few problems because he wins absolutely everything in the air. I was just disappointed with the way we started. It was the same against Salford City a couple of weeks ago, with not enough belief to take the game to the opposition.

“The longer the game went on, we got better and we made a very good start to the second half, asking a few more questions of Chesterfield.

“We had to deal with their strengths and dangerous players, but I felt we grew into the game.”
