Robins’ surge just can’t rock the Rocks

CARSHALTON ATHLETIC 1 BOGNOR REGIS TOWN 1

- By James Barrett

BOGNOR REGIS withstood a late Robins onslaught at Colston Avenue to maintain their unbeaten record.

The game started evenly but the first chance fell to the home side as Mike Dixon’s shot was deflected just wide, while the Rocks’ Doug Tuck failed to put the finishing touch to a free-kick routine.

But Carshalton’s Jordan Cheadle broke the deadlock on 27 minutes as he blasted the ball beyond Rocks keeper Dan Lincoln from 25 yards.

Bognor equalised on the stroke of half-time through Jimmy Muitt, his sixth goal of the season.

The visitors began the secondhalf brightly but Calvin Davies had an effort cleared off the line and Harvey Whyte had a goal disallowed for offside.

And the last 20 minutes belonged to the Robins. Tommy Bradford fizzed an effort just wide, then was unable to poke home from close range as a strike by Dixon rolled across goal.

Their best chance of the final quarter fell to Robins captain Paris Hamilton-Downes, who met a corner from three yards only for his header to fly over.

Cheadle also tried his luck from distance twice in added time but Lincoln ensured his side left with a point.
