Bar are culled by Robert’s strike

POTTERS BAR TOWN 0 LEATHERHEAD 1

- By Alan Evans

ROBERT Cullen’s firsthalf strike decided a hard-fought game in which defences excelled.

In a hectic first half, most of the action concentrated in midfield with both keepers rarely troubled.

The deadlock was broken on 24 minutes. A mazy run by D’Sean Theobalds caused havoc in the Bar defence and Cullen took advantage with a well-struck shot past Bar keeper Berkley Laurencin.

The Scholars pressed forward but it the Tanners almost doubled their lead on 36 minutes when Travis Gregory’s shot came back off the bar with Laurencin stranded.

Potters Bar started the second half brightly, Billy Adcock and Sandro Costa combining well only for Costa to curl his shot wide.

George Nicholas had a chance to equalise but his header went over the top. Costa beat the offside trap but not Leatherhead keeper Zaki Oualah.

Substitute Eoin Casey almost helped steal a point on 86 minutes when Oualah saved his shot and Billy Adcock’s followup was also blocked.

And despite a spirited second half performance from The Scholars, the visitors held out.
