TAYLOR IN DRESSING DOWN FOR THE REBELS
WORTHING 0 MARGATE 1
JOE Taylor’s secondhalf header consigned ten-man Worthing to their first defeat of the season.
And the hosts added to their own misery by missing a second-half penalty.
The Rebels’ Callum Kealy had an early shot blocked and a header tipped over the bar, while Sam Rents curled a free-kick just wide from the edge of the box.
Five minutes before half-time Margate sub Sidney Sollis fired straight at Worthing keeper Lucas Covolan and Gate keeper Henry Newcombe palmed away Rents’ fierce effort.
On 65 minutes, Worthing defender Aaron Racine was dismissed for two bookable offences in quick succession, the second a high challenge on George Brown.
From the free-kick Margate led as Lee Prescott picked out an unmarked Taylor who headed in at the near post in the 67th minute.
Worthing were gifted an excellent chance to equalise on 78 minutes as hesitation by Newcombe allowed Adjiboye to steal in and when he was clipped by the Margate keeper the referee pointed to the spot.
Sub Ollie Pearce’s penalty clipped the outside of the post.
Pearce had a stoppage-time shot from close range saved and Covolan denied Brown as Margate held on.
