Raynes strike is enough to win it

OXFORD CITY 1 BATH CITY 2

- By Patrick Lock

BATH CITY left it late to secure a deservedvictory on the road.

Joe Raynes fired home from range in stoppage time after the Romans first goal, a firm header by Adam Mann, had been cancelled out by Josh Ashby’s effort.

Hoops keeper Craig King’s strong reflex save kept Ross Stearn out just before the break.

The Hoops created their best chance of the game straight out of the blocks, Matt Paterson favourite to score but finishing tamely.

The Romans, however, went on to have the better of the half and finally took the lead in the 63rd minute – Mann easily out-jumping Ben Jefford.

Ashby’s equaliser –a deflected effort from range – came just six minutes later but should have been cancelled out immediately when the unmarked Sean Rigg headed wide.

King to could do nothing when Raynes arrowed a loose ball into his bottom corner from 20 yards to ensure all three points.
