NLP’s Team of the Year back in May, Peter has got the push as manager of Hereford FC.

Now unless you are in the inner sanctum at a club, it is impossible to know the true dynamics between board/committee and manager. There might, for example, be conflict over budgets, or personality clashes that go beyond results.

The odd person on my Twitter timeline even suggested that Beadle had grown unpopular due to not keeping prolific striker John Mills in the summer and some “dreadful football”. Others suggested the manager wanted too big a wage bill.

Well, it could be that Mills wanted too much money and Beadle was in fact being frugal, as well as Mills not wanting to travel in National League North. The manager certainly deserved to have his judgment on players accepted, given his record. And I didn’t hear much about dreadful football these past three years.

Hereford have had a patchy start but the underlying issue here is probably that they are reaching a point where the new club will find its natural level, with the tensions that evokes.

The crass sacking of Beadle, though, was ridiculously precipitate. If that is what happens to a manager who has won three straight championships, heaven help the rest.
