BLUES HAVE FOUND THE PERFECT CURE IN JAMIE

-

Mon 171874 Northwich are set to move closer to home next season after signing a two-year groundshare agreement with Barnton. The North West Counties Premier side were formed by fans as a breakaway club from Northwich Victoria in 2012 and have led a nomadic existence, playing home games at Winsford United’s St Luke’s Barton Stadium.

Barnton play in a village near Northwich and will initially host the club for two years which has the option to be extended should both clubs wish to.

The proposed move must now be approved by both the league management committee and the FA while 1874 continue to achieve a permanent base.

Tues 18VETERAN striker Jamie Cureton marked his management debut with a win over Hertford Town – and even gave himself some minutes. The former Bristol Rovers, Reading, Norwich City and Dagenham & Redbridge frontman stepped in as caretaker manager alongside director of football Steve Smith after boss Adam Flint resigned on Monday. Cureton, 43, had little time to prepare the Blues for their trip to Hertford in the Bostik League Velocity Cup on Tuesday, yet still saw Stortford progress. First-half goals from Jake Cass and Jordan Wescott were enough despite Tommy Wade pulling one back, with Cureton coming on for the last 20 minutes.

Wed 19SLOUGH Town went about signing a new player a bit more unconventionally this week ahead of their FA Cup tie with Sholing.

The Rebels were one of the stars of last season’s competition, hosting Rochdale in the second round live on BT Sport and conducting the third round draw from Arbour Park.

But preparations this week haven’t been ideal and joint boss Neil Baker took to social media to sort a problem: “Strange way of doing this via twitter however not getting what we need at present, but we are looking for a keeper as cover in the FA Cup for @sloughtownfc if interested PM me.”

The tweet quickly went viral and Baker updated supporters saying: “Slightly shocked at how many responses we have had in regards to a back-up keeper for Jack this weekend! Some brilliant replies also! However we are now sorted! Social media at its best.”

As a result, former Tooting & Mitcham keeper Matte Pierson signed for the club and was on the bench for yesterday’s tie.
