PLUMMER PUMPS SEASIDERS TO APEX

- By Tony Walsh

TWO GOALS either side of half-time from centreforward Lerone Plummer fired Blackfield & Langley to the top of the table.

Plummer made up for an earlier miss from just four yards out on the stoke of half-time to put Blackfield ahead in their clash with Paulton Rovers.

The Watersiders came out firing and added a second as Liam Robinson had his shot well-saved, though Plummer was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

Liam Monelle blasted a goal back on 56 minutes after a fine run from the left by Aysa Corrick.

Rovers piled on the pressure but saw the influential Monelle get knocked unconscious and stretchered off.

Ten minutes were added, in which Rovers saw a shot from Trey Anderson agonisingly cleared off the line.

Blackfield’s 2-1 win saw them rise to the division’s highest perch after Evesham United tripped up against Yate Town.

The first half finished 0-0 – though not for a want of trying as Yate had a chance cleared off the line just before the break.

They made up for it with a goal-of-the-year contender from Nick Peare in the 49th minute, the Yate man striking a beautiful curling freekick into the top corner.

Perhaps against the run of play, Yate got their second in the 70th minute, this time thanks to David Sims-Burgess.

It was all Evesham for the rest of the game, with Jacob Davidge finding the back of the net, but they were unable to convert their chances to equalise.

AFC Totton didn’t have any troubles converting chances as they easily humbled

Fleet Town 5-2. A wild first half saw four goals scored, with Justin Bennett netting a brace and Eddie Perrett grabbing the third for the Stags while Meshach Williams scored his third in three games for Town.

Tom Bearwish’s and Stuart Green’s goals for Totton kept the game out of reach for the luckless Blues.

Despite their best efforts, Larkhall Athletic were unable to come back three times against Bideford, who ran out 3-2 winners.

Bideford took the lead after 13 minutes thanks to a Ben Wood free-kick.

Then, just prior to the half-time whistle, in the 41st minute, Larkhall equalised through Lewis Powell, sending the game into the half-time break tied up.

A 58th-minute goal from Ryan Turner put the visiting team back in the lead, only for Alex Lambert to equalise for the Larks 12 minutes later.

But Craig Allan scored the Devonshire side’s third goal to claim all three points and climb to eighth in the table.

The search for their first points of the season goes on for Barnstaple

Town as they lost 2-1 to Slimbridge.

Barnstaple started the game brightly. with Neil Last having an effort saved by visiting keeper Eric Edge, as did Jordan Charran.

However, the deadlock was broken on 54 minutes when a through ball from substitute Yeshaya Lomotey found Edjidja Mbunga, who rounded keeper Rob Holmes and finished into an empty net.

Barnstaple hauled themselves level on 72 minutes when a Langford cross was headed down by Charran into the path of Jack Rice-Lethaby, who shot into the bottom corner to bring the home side back on level terms.

But on eight minutes from time, Slimbridge’s Mbunga chested a pass through to Ewan Dunbar, who rifled a ferocious effort into the net at Holmes’ near post to seal a 2-1 win.
