Jamie is in rude health in front of the net

- By Graeme Auger

STORTFORD recorded their first home victory of the campaign with all the goals coming after the interval.

It was a well-merited success for the Blues over the Robins, although they had to endure some anxious moments towards the end that were settled by a Jamie Cureton header in stoppage time.

The hosts had started well, with Johnville Renee and Alfie Mason going close in the first ten minutes and they had the chance to go ahead in the 21st when Ruel Sotiriou was fouled by Daniel Pappoe in the box, but Jake Cass hit the post from the resultant penalty.

Gradually, the visitors came more into the picture and Michael Onovwigun headed over from a good position.

Soon after the restart, Sotiriou had an effort cleared off the line by Jordan Cheadle and then, in the 52nd minute, when a Jordan Wescott free-kick wasn’t cleared, Mason scored with a great strike from the edge of the box.

Within four minutes, Athletic were back on level terms as Mike Dixon converted Bobby Price’s cross at the near post.

The Blues retook the lead when Ryan Charles fired home after combining with Cass in the 65th minute.

Calum Kitscha made a fine save from a Cheadle free-kick and Stortford suffered several nervous moments, including seeing a Carshalton goal netted by substitute Jerson dos Santos disallowed for offside.

Then, in the third minute of added time, Cureton turned up trumps with an excellent header from Renee’s centre.
