FIVE-STAR MOORS PUT RAVENS TO THE SWORD

- By Ben Tyler

TWO-GOAL hero Danny Wright hailed the character and individual performances of his teammates as super Solihull Moors put on a five-star show to bury Bromley.

On a day when Tim Flowers’ men went goal crazy, defender Alex Gudger netted with a towering header from Darren Carter’s corner, the setpiece specialist then lashed home a 25-yarder and fellow midfielder Jamey Osborne would add to Wright’s brace with a fine finish, thus capping a memorable afternoon.

“Today’s result was massive following on from the Dover win after two defeats – which we should’ve got more from,” Wright said.

“We had to show character last week and back it up this week with a good performance. We went and did that and laid down a marker now for our season.

“We’ve been a solid team all season but to get five shows it’s a great game for us and it breeds confidence.”

An emphatic first 20 minutes saw Moors race into a 3-0 lead, with Gudger’s thumping header from Carter’s pin-point corner setting the tone in only the second minute,

Carter then turned scorer with a stunning leftfooted effort from range that flew past the outstretched arms of Bromley keeper David Gregory.

And when Jermaine Hylton cut inside after getting the better of full-back Jordan Higgs, he fired the ball goalwards and found the back of the net via a deflection off a defender onto the knee of Wright. Wright was not coy to mention his final touch on the ball and admitted: “Everyone had a lot of positives to take personally from today’s game, including myself with two – even if Jermaine deserved that goal today! But I’ve had to claim it after it came off my knee.” Solihull chances continued to arrive in abundance without any sign of resurgence by Bromley, and they could count themselves lucky when surviving a goalmouth melee, with Solihull hitting the post; but Wright’s second-goal before halftime from Osborne’s cut-back was another fatal blow. The rout was completed 18 minutes from time when Osborne turned goalscorer after a sublime touch past a defender allowed him to bury the ball in the bottom corner. But there was to be late drama when Kwame Thomas received a second yellow for a perceived dive by referee Declan Bourne. Bromley manager Neil Smith moaned: “We knew Solihull were up there so it was always going to be about keeping them quiet, but conceding so early puts you on the back foot. “The first 45 minutes was inept and not a performance we want to be putting out.”
