ASH ARE BURNT BY BRIDGES

- By Tom Harle

HAYES & Yeading thrashed Ashford Town 7-1 as Scott Bridges bagged a hat-trick for the home side.

It took Hayes 40 minutes to break the deadlockas Bridges scored his first from the penalty spot. Drama surfaced a minute later when the Ashford goalkeeper Brannon Daly was sent off for allegedly kicking the ball at a Hayes player, which caused an altercation.

The home side quickly took advantage as Bridges got his second on the stroke of half-time, before the floodgates opened in the second-half.

Quickfire goals by Toby Little, Josh Chamberlain, Duncan Cullet and Scott Donnelly put United 6-0 up, with Tom Howard grabbing a consolation in the 79th minute.

Bridges wasn’t to be denied his hat-trick though, scoring his third in second-half stoppage time on a memorable day for Hayes & Yeading.

At the top of the table, Waltham Abbey maintained their 100 per cent record at home with a 3-0 win against Uxbridge.

After both sides had good chances, with Uxbridge’s Tyrone Pinks and Matt Sinclair’s denied by Arthur Janata, it was in fact Waltham who opened the scoring, with two goals in three minutes.

Ellis Brown scored both, reacting quickest after the ball was only half-cleared in the 60th minute, and then beating Paul McCarthy in goal with a fierce shot.

Uxbridge pressed for a goal to get back into the game, but lacked cutting edge throughout, and Waltham’s Ibrahim Kehinde finished the game off in the 87th minute. Waltham are in first place on 21 points, with Uxbridge in 11th on 11 points.

Elsewhere, Tooting and Mitcham United grabbed a much-needed win at home to Hertford

Town, winning 3-1. Tooting opened the scoring in the 29th minute as Lexus Beeden scored his second goal of the season, poking in from a corner. Tooting went in at the break 1-0 up but Hertford responded well in the second-half as Keenleyside curled an effort just wide.

Yet Tooting got the next goal, with Razzaq Coleman finishing in the 63rd minute.

Hertford did get the goal their performance deserved as Charlie Ruff headed home from George Lutaya’s cross with 19 minutes remaining.

But two minutes later Danny Bassett scored for Tooting and they saw the game out for only their second league win of the season while Hertford are yet to win away.

Meanwhile in a midtable clash, Northwood won away at Westfield, scoring a last-minute winner in a 2-1 win at Woking Park.

After a goalless firsthalf, Hakim Nyariki fired the visitors in front in the 54th minute, scoring his first goal for the club from a clever Matt Cooper corner. Yet 12 minutes later, Westfield levelled through Karle Carder Andrews from the penalty spot, as Northwood were penalised for a handball in the box.

Northwood were not to be denied though and when Ned Clarke’s shot was parried, Hakim Nyariki scored his second goal of the game to seal three points with two minutes left.

The result means Northwood overtake Westfield in the table, moving up to seventh on 13 point while their opponents Westfield are two points behind.

Lastly, Thomas Wade was the hero at the Herds Renault Stadium as

Cheshunt won away at Molesey 1-0. Wade scored in the 40th minute, with Molesey unable to find what would have been a precious equaliser for a team languishing in bottom spot. Cheshunt keep up the pressure on those above them as they move into third place on 17 points, only four points behind leaders Waltham Abbey.he league table is less pleasurable viewing for Molesey, who are still without a win and are rooted to the bottom on one point.
