BUTLIN HAS A GRAND DAY OUT

The Non-League Football Paper - - FA VASE 2ND ROUND - By Wilf Alexander

WALSALL Wood comfortably secured Vase progress at the expense of lowerranked Dronfield thanks to a professional performance spearheaded by Joey Butlin.

The writing was on the wall as soon as Wood took the lead 33 minutes in.

Dan Okojie’s surge down the right ended with Jordan Nadat guiding his header into the top corner to get Darren Byfield’s men off and running.

There was a good ebb and flow to the game but the home side continued to exert control with Butlin’s delightful right-footed freekick from the edge of the box doubling the advantage with 20 minutes to go, a deserved reward for his tenacity throughout.

The tie was done and dusted another four minutes later when a corner was floated out towards the far corner of the 18-yard box for Kyle Rowley to steer back across goal and find the net from just inside the penalty area.

Substitute Lois Ferriera gave the travelling support something to shout about before the end, timing to perfection his run on to a well-weighted through ball before beating advancing keeper Reiss Wagstaff.

Wood enter Monday’s draw on the back of 13 goals in four matches in the FA Vase this season.
