Wings hit back thanks to Mills

DANNY MILLS’ late goal earned Welling United a deserved point in a hard-fought game with Wealdstone.

Chances were few in a physical first half. Connor Stevens headed over from Joe Payne’s cross before he put the visitors ahead in the 21st minute. A corner was half-cleared and Stevens was given space to fire home.

Jake Sheppard for Wealdstone and Matthew Paterson of Welling were off target before Bradley Bubb went on a good run but shot into the sidenetting.

After the interval Welling had a goal disallowed for a foul on Jonathan North before David Pratt was thwarted by a brilliant save from goalkeeper Dan Wilks.

Mills then came on giving Welling more presence up front. Brendan Kiernan volleyed over and when Nassim L’Ghoul’s run wasn’t finished by a Thierry Audel goal it started to look as if their efforts would be unrewarded.

However, as stoppage time approached, Montel Agyemang went on a run and his pass found Mills, who obliged with a crisp finish, and Craig Braham-Barrett might have won it for Welling but his curler went wide.
