County too hot for Glovers as magic of the cup returns
HATTERS IN THE HAT!
NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTH’S Stockport County stunned League Two’s Yeovil Town 3-1 on their own patch in the FA Cup First Round.
Jim Gannon’s brave side fell behind after just eight minutes to Alex Fisher’s header, but star striker Matty Warburton levelled things up and then Nyal Bell gave the Hatters a halftime lead. Frank Mulhern netted a third in the second half to send Stockport into the second round for the first time in nine years.
Elsewhere, Maidstone United came from behind to beat Macclesfield Town 2-1 thanks to goals from Jack Powell and Blair Turgott.
Kabby Tshimanga bagged a hat-trick for Oxford City, but Tranmere Rovers equalised late on in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Aldershot Town held Bradford City 1-1, while FC Halifax Town forced a replay at Morecambe and Ebbsfleet United drew with Cheltenham.
MOSES EMMANUEL was the Billericay Town hero as they forced a replay at National League side Chesterfield.
The National League South’s October player of the month, left, struck a superb second half equaliser to cancel out Laurence Maguire’s opener. High-flying Ricay had goalkeeper Alan Julian to thank too for a string of fine saves and now Martin Allen’s struggling Chesterfield will have to win in Essex if they are to reach the second round. Meanwhile, the FA Trophy second qualifying round saw 36 ties take place with South Shields seeing off Hyde United thanks to Dillon Morse’s winner.
