MCCANN IS MIFFED BY FA’S DIVE BAN

- By Jon Couch

HAMPTON & Richmond Borough boss Gavin McCann says he is “bemused” by the decision of the FA to hand midfielder Tyrell Miller-Rodney a twomatch ban for diving.

The 24-year-old was charged retrospectively with successful deception of a match official after winning the penalty which enabled the Beavers to take the lead in their televised FA Cup first round clash against Oldham Athletic.

An action replay of the incident was played endlessly on TV and social media outlets and became the subject of a debate on talkSPORT’s Drive Time programme.

Miller-Rodney denied the charge, claiming his stride had been checked by the Oldham man’s first challenge outside the box and he was not in full control when the second tackle knocked him off his feet.

“It is not within my nature to commit such an act (simulation),” the former Hayes & Yeading and Staines Town player said. “I am someone who prides himself on his honesty.”

The FA panel, however, rejected his appeal on Wednesday, forcing Miller-Rodney to sit out yesterday’s FA Trophy clash with Billericay Town and this Saturday’s visit of East Thurrock.

He can though play in the Middlesex Charity Cup tie at Spelthorne Sports on Tuesday, if selected.

Manager McCann though was clearly frustrated with the outcome of the hearing, saying: “The FA’s decision to ban Tyrell is one that has left me in a state of bemusement.

“I really can’t tell you how disappointed I am with the outcome. I truly feel for Tyrell, who is one of the most honest players you will find. We move on.”
