NASH GET 7-YEAR ITCH WITH JOHN!

- By Jon Couch

CURZON ASHTON have swapped one club legend for another after making a surprising managerial switch.

Long-standing boss John Flanagan was sacked by the National League North club after seven years in charge on Friday.

And he was swiftly replaced by Mark Bradshaw, who has spent over at the Tameside Stadium in a number of roles, coaching the junior, youth and first-team set-up.

The Nash are winless in their last five league games and were knocked out of the FA Trophy last Saturday by Northern Premier League side Basford United.

The shock decision comes after Flanagan won two promotions with Curzon to take them into Step 2 – the highest level the club has operated at – and then avoided relegation for the past three seasons on a modest budget.

Curzon sat four points above the drop and seven off the playoff places before yesterday although recent results haven’t been good enough for the club’s board.

A statement read: “The club regret to announce that due to recent results a decision has been taken to replace John Flanagan as the Curzon Ashton manager.

“Over the past seven years, John has done a tremendous job, gaining two promotions resulting in Curzon playing at the highest level in its history.

“We would like to thank John for his hard work over the years and wish him well for the future.”
