HIGNETT IS HIRED AS BATES DEPARTS
DIRECTOR of football Craig Hignett has been placed in temporary charge of Hartlepool United after Matthew Bates became the 11th permanent manager to be sacked by the club in ten years. A crowd of just over 1,700, Pools lowest in 20 years, turned out at Victoria Park on Tuesday night as Bates’ side were beaten 2-1 by AFC Fylde. It was their sixth consecutive defeat in the National League becoming their worst losing run since March 2014 and saw them slip eight points adrift of the play-offs having started the season strongly. Bates was given the role on a fulltime basis in the summer after successfully avoiding relegation last season as caretaker boss following the dismissal of Craig Harrison. Hignett re-joined Hartlepool in March after being sacked as manager in January 2017. He will be assisted by coach Ged McNamee and goalkeeper coach Ross Turnbull.
