DIAMONDS SHOW THEIR WORTH

The Non-League Football Paper - - SATURDAY MATCH CENTRE - By Craig Cooper

AFC RUSHDEN & Diamonds deservedly took the three points in this keenly contested match.

The away side took the lead after just 69 seconds. A mix-up in the home defence saw Albie Hopkins tuck under Marcus Garnham.

Leiston keeper Marcus Garnham then picked up a knock but carried on.

After Tom Bullard gave away a free-kick on the halfway line, Tom Lorraine headed in the set piece.

Minutes later, Garnham was replaced by Harry Knights, with Joe Jefford going in goal.

Jake Reed spurned a good opportunity but in the 48th minute of the first half, Christy Finch curled home a brilliant free-kick.

Leiston defended well at the start of the second period.

Rushden had some good chances but were wasteful with their finishing, while a great Finch pass put in Jake Reed and he blasted into the side netting.

The visitors made the game safe on 79 minutes as Ben Diamond headed home past Jefford.

Harry Knights then brought down Lorraine in the area and Ben Farrell fired home from the spot.
