SONNY IS AN ANGEL AT DEATH

Miles strike downs Dorking

- By Les Freeland

THE LEAGUE leaders welcomed third placed Tonbridge Angels to Meadowbank for the second time recently but this time were hit by a late winner from Sonny Miles.

The last match was a hard fought 1-0 win for the home side so the visitors came determined to make amends.

A lively start by both sides led to an early chance for Alex Read being saved by home keeper Slavomir Huk.

Wanderers then broke away through Reece Hall and Tom Tolfrey forced a save from Jonathan Henley.

Both teams were desperate to get the home advantage but clear-cut chances were hard to come by. After 20 minutes Joe Turner curled a shot wide and Huk again had to save from Read.

The game swung back Wanderers way with a succession of corners and Jason Prior headed just over.

After half an hour Huk pulled off a magnificent save to deny the lively Turner.

In the second half, substitute Guiseppe Sole fired a shot just over.

Dorking had two further shots cleared off the line but Tonbridge Angels were still looking for the winner and Jared Small ran forward and fired a stinging volley just over Huk’s crossbar.

Both teams battled to find a breakthrough but neither team could find the target.

However, in the last minute of the game a Tonbridge Angels corner resulted in Miles bundling the ball into the net with Wanderers defenders bitterly complaining that Huk had been held by two players.

The goal stood however and the points went home with Tonbridge.

Steve McKinn, Tonbridge Angels manager, said:“I am was delighted with the three points after a difficult run of results.

“I felt both teams cancelled each other out and a draw would have been a fair result.

“But I’m delighted for my players that we have got back to winning ways in such a fashion.”

Wanderers managers Marc White was downbeat, saying: “I am disappointed with our first half performance.

“And although things improved in the second half, I felt a draw would probably have been a fair result.

“But Tonbridge did their homework and worked hard for their three points.”
