WINGS CLIP CRUSADERS TO GO TOP OF THE PILE

- By Mark Doig

WELLING UNITED 3 HUNGERFORD TOWN 1

COMING into the game, Welling were third and Hungerford third-frombottom but the hosts were pushed hard before coming out deserved winners to go top.

Chances were few and far between in the first half and only a Thierry Audel header that was tipped over threatened either goal in the opening half an hour.

However, Welling’s next attempt broke the deadlock. Danny McNamara went on a strong run before finding Nassim L’Ghoul. He played it inside to Bradley Goldberg, who spun to shoot home from 20 yards.

Hungerford equalised on the stroke of halftime when Danilo OrsiDadomo held it up and found Matt Jones to fire home at the near post.

After the break, there was far more action and Jacob Weaver made a save from L’Ghoul before he and Goldberg both came close.

Further chances came Welling’s way before they eventually went ahead. Substitute Danny Mills headed back across goal and L’Ghoul came in bravely at the far post to bundle home.

And Welling increased their lead in the 90th minute when three subs combined.

Montel Agyemang swung over the corner, Gavin McCallum knocked it back across goal and Mills was on hand to knock it home.
