Bickerstaff secures second win
HITCHIN achieved only their second league win of the season, but in comfortable style.
They took the lead after 11 minutes when Isaac Galliford’s persistence kept the ball in play close to the line and his perfect cross saw Michael Cain’s strong leftfooted shot find the top left corner.
Barwell’s Liam Canavan headed over the bar following a corner.
On the half-hour mark a corner from Galliford fell neatly to Josh Bickerstaff who put the Hertfordshire side further ahead from close range to give the hosts an unprecedented two-goal cushion. Eliot Putman’s header for the Leicestershire-based Canaries was held by Michael Johnson close to the interval.
Two minutes into the second half, Ezra Forde came close to adding a third goal but the ball struck the foot of the post.
Lewis Ferrell and Cain both tested Liam Castle, and Hitchin again threatened from a rapid succession of free kicks, the closest being a header from the veteran Matt Nolan.
Barwell pushed hard in the closing stages with a good shot from Robert Morgan, but Hitchin were comfortable and ultimately glad of maximum points.
