HATS OFF TO SUPER JAMIE

- By Martin Jobling

JAMIE Owens’ first-half hat-trick ensured that

Marske United remained unbeaten at home in 2018 with a 4-1 win over Gresley in Division One East. Curtis Round’s wicked deflected shot and two strikes from Owens gave the home side a quick three-goal lead.

Owens’ 12-minute hattrick was completed on 34 minutes when he found the net with a fierce low shot from 18 yards.

Gresley pulled one back after the break with a wellworked goal finished by Callum Riddell but the match was over as a contest as Marske bounced back from a 3-2 defeat in their last league clash away at Lincoln United.

Marske find themselves seventh in the table, just two points shy of the playoff positions.

Wisbech Town earned their first win in the league since 15 September with a convincing 4-1 triumph against Ossett United.

Ossett went ahead through Marcus Day but three goals in five minutes from the home side gave Wisbech the lead.

Michael Frew scored a hat-trick and along with Toby Hilliard’s 28thminute strike, Wisbech made it four games unbeaten in all competitions.

Ossett have now won only twice in their last eight league matches as they remain locked in the middle of the table in 10th place.

There were four goals in the opening half as Pontefract Collieries won a keenly-contested derby against Frickley Athletic 3-2.

Two goals from captain Spencer Clarke and a header from Eli Hey cancelled out Sam Cable’s two stunning strikes for the home side.

The visitors closed out the last half an hour with relative ease and took the derby day spoils.

The derby result meant that Ponte kept their place in the play-off positions and have now had four victories in a row.

As for Frickley, they have now lost five consecutive matches and have only won twice in their last 10 matches. In another derby, Tadcaster Albion and

Brighouse Town played out a thrilling draw which ended 2-2.

Substitute Jack Normanton missed a stoppage time penalty for Brighouse as it was saved by Tadcaster keeper James Hodges.

The two sides started the game level on points in the league and the ebb and flow was clearly shown in the game.

Billy Whitehouse and Joe Lumsden scored for the home side to take them ahead on two occasions.

However, Aaron Martin’s chip and Zeph Thomas’ late strike levelled and made sure that both sides left this game with a point.

Belper Town made it three wins in a row with a 3-1 win away at Carlton

Town to keep pace with the play off positions.

Goals from George Milner, Nathan Curtis and a late penalty from Piteu Cruz inflicted Carlton’s third straight defeat and kept them in 16th place in the league.

Belper are sixth in the table, just a point off the play-offs.

A 30-yard strike from Ryan Robbins gave Loughborough Dynamo a hard-fought 1-0 win against Cleethorpes Town.

Cleethorpes came into the game off the back of a 6-2 win against Stockbridge Park Steels but Loughborough gave them their first defeat in four matches in the league. Stocksbridge Park Steels missed several chances as they drew 1-1 with Spalding United in a bottom-of-the-table clash.

Brodie Litchfield gave the Steels the lead with 10 minutes to go but Conor Marshall’s last-minute equaliser meant that both sides earned their first point in four league matches. Pickering Town valiantly held onto a point away at Stamford with a 0-0 draw as the home side missed a host of chances.
