THAT’S SEVEN AND HELL!

Ruthless title-chasing Sports fill their boots against the OD’s

- By Stephen Cooper

PAUL Malone starred with a hat-trick as Division One Central leaders Peterborough Sports cracked seven past AFC Dunstable. This resounding victory sets up a hum-dinger of a clash with Bromsgrove Sporting next Saturday, where the division’s top two will be placed on collision course in Worcestershire. Sports will head into that mouth-watering encounter in fearsome form. It took just ten minutes for the Turbines to get their noses in front against Dunstable, an Avelino Vieira header from a corner touched home on the line by Dion Ferris. Sports’ second followed shortly afterwards as a flowing move ended with Mark Jones steadying himself before slotting home. Just before the break, the home side were deservedly 3-0 ahead, with Malone getting on the end of a Lewis Hilliard free-kick to head home. Goal number four arrived midway through the second period when substitutes Andre Williams and Abdo Sali combined to present the latter with a simple far-post tap-in. On 75 minutes, Sports had their fifth courtesy of Ferris, who curled home with aplomb after being teed up by Josh Moreman. The sixth saw another setpiece assist for Hilliard as Malone powered home another unstoppable header from his corner. The visitors’ misery was compounded by a red card for goalkeeper Connor Swanson for a reckless challenge with five minutes to play. And there was still time for his replacement to have his turn at picking the ball out of the net moments later as Malone hooked home his third of the afternoon.
