Spartans pile on woe for Boro

- By Chris Philpotts

NUNEATON saw their troubles continue yesterday as they made it seven games without a win in the league after a quick-fire double at the start of the second half gave Blyth all three points.

The Boro, whose changes off the field meant they were only able to field three substitutes for the game, started brightly, but were unable to make that count as Ryan Edmunds saw a close range effort well saved by Peter Jameson before Adam McGurk saw his rebound hit the side netting.

The visitors made them pay for that as Dan Maguire broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when he slotted home at the second attempt.

The Boro continued to press after going behind and had a great chance to draw level before the break, but Dior Angus saw his effort come back off the post after Jameson got a hand to it.

That miss was doubly disappointing seconds into the second half as the visitors doubled their lead.

Jarrett Rivers flicked home a cross past Cameron Belford, the keeper picking the ball out of his net twice in quick succession as Maguire grabbed his second of the game moments later.

Boro’s Nat Kelly hit the bar, before Angus eventually got some reward for the home side with a consolation with five minutes left.
