The Non-League Football Paper

It’s safety first at the Hive or anywhere

- DAVID BOND via email

ONCE again your publication airs a visiting fans’ grievance regarding attendance at the Hive, Barnet (Fans’ Forum, December 2).

I have no affiliation to Barnet, watching my local club Lancaster City and other Non-League matches throughout the country and working match days at Preston North End as a match-day host.

In this role I highlight the fact that supporters safety is paramount; do your readers need reminding of past tragic events at football grounds?

Fans attending matches at Barnet are housed in one corner of the stand as other emergency exits are not manned.

I would gladly submit to a brief frisk search if this helped ensure my safety – I admit alas, a sad indictment of our times.

In support of Barnet FC I found their stewards and fans most welcoming.
