PHOENIX RISE STILL CLINCH A Brown sends the Blues to victory

The Non-League Football Paper - - BOSTIK NORTH AND SOUTH CENTRAL - By Alex Fisher By Mark Hunt By Trevor Gilbert

CRAY Wanderers maintained the only unbeaten record in the Bostik League but had to settle for a point after a tough battle against Phoenix Sports at Hayes Lane. A DOGGED display from Barking got them back to winning ways against play-off contenders Grays.

The contest started off on fairly equal footing, aside from an early Grays chance as Kieran Bishop found himself through on goal only to be denied by Tim Brown.

It was Barking who took the lead as a neat pass from Ola Ogunwamide found Darelle Russell who side-footed the ball perfectly home.

Grays looked dangerous from set-pieces and just before the break Brown was forced into a terrific save at his near post.

The visitors’ aerial bombardment continued in the second half but they were made to pay for pushing forward as Jordan Peart sprinted the length of the field with the ball before squaring to Ogunwamide who powered the ball home.

Bishop finally beat Brown with a low finish but the home side held on despite a deflected effort hitting the bar.
