BLUES BEAT ME TO MINHAS
SOME weeks back, my old friend and Salisbury FC manager Steve Claridge asked me to go and scout a young striker turning out for Ascot United in the Hellenic League by the name of Nathan Minhas. I duly went to a home game.
While Ascot lost 3-1, I saw enough to know that the 21year-old, with his excellent first touch and eye for goal, could play much higher than Step 5. I recommended that Steve move quickly for him.
Too late. Within a few days, Billericay had snapped Minhas up and he will join them next season, after fin- ishing this one with Ascot. Still, it’s nice to have your judgment vindicated.
In midweek, with the season not yet half over, Minhas scored his 30th goal of the campaign.
He could be plying his trade at Step 1 next season. Note the name.
