EASTERN COUNTIES

HISTON moved two points clear at the top after a 4-2 home win against Norwich United.

Max York netted twice for the league leaders with Patrick Bexfield and Ollie Emsden also on target.

Second-placed Godmanches­ter Rovers lost ground to Histon after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Whitton United. Charlie Bowen had put the home side ahead but they were denied all three points by Josh Hitter's late equaliser for Whitton.

Sam Nunn and Max Melanson were both on target for third-placed Stowmarket Town as they ran out 2-0 winners away to Gorleston and fourthplac­ed Wroxham drew 2-2 at home to Long Melford.

Elsewhere, Woodbridge Town are up to fifth after Mark Ray struck a hattrick in an impressive 4-0 away victory over Walsham-le-Willows and there was a 2-0 home win for Brantham Athletic against Thetford Town.

Framlingha­m Town remain in the drop zone after suffering a 3-1 defeat at home to FC Clacton and Charlie McAra and Ray Urry were bottom side Great Yarmouth Town's scorers in a 2-0 home win over Newmarket Town.

In the day's other two games, Steve Holder’s winning goal saw Ely City beat Kirkley & Pakefield 2-1 at home and the match between Hadleigh United and Haverhill Rovers finished in a 2-2 draw. RORY HAYWARD

HELLENIC LEAGUE

ASCOT United took over top spot following their 1-0 home victory over fellow high-flyers Bishops Cleeve.

Fabien Etienne was on target with a header in the 43rd minute of a game played in atrocious condition.

Previous leaders Brackley Town Saints found themselves trailing 3-0 at Lydney Town, where continuous rain throughout the first half saw large areas of surface water appear and as a result, referee Dan Frizzell decided to abandon the match at half-time.

Terence (TJ) Bohane hit a hat-trick in just nine minutes of the first half as Royal Wootton Bassett Town won 31 at Tuffley Rovers in another game played out in dreadful conditions, with Henry Birket responding for the hosts.

Steve Robertson hit two goals and Dan Comer and Jack Dunmall one each as Wantage Town saw off visitors Fairford Town 4-1 despite Danny Gudger reducing the deficit before halftime.

A second-half Kyle Pitt hat-trick earned Brimscombe & Thrupp a 3-1 win at Windsor following a goalless first half, with Robert Lazarczuk earlier grabbing an equaliser for the hosts.

Abingdon United and Holmer Green fought out a goalless draw.

Friday’s Binfield v Ardley United clash was cancelled in the early evening because a sudden drop in temperatur­e led to the pitch freezing.

NORTH WEST COUNTIES

CITY of Liverpool edged their top-of-the-table encounter with Congleton Town 2-1 thanks to Craig Cairns’ 55th minute winner, extending their lead at the top to six points.

And title rivals Runcorn Town maintained their grip on third place despite having to settle for a 1-1 draw with mid-table Irlam.

The viewing of the day was probably to be found at Wincham Park as Northwich Victoria were edged out 32 by fourth-placed Bootle, despite the away side blowing a three-goal lead.

Burscough handed out a 5-0 drubbing to Abbey Hey thanks in part to a brace from Connor Findlayson, whilst Carl Grimshaw’s hat-trick earned Charnock Richard all three points in a 4-0 romp of Litherland REMYCA.

Winsford United claimed a crucial victory against Padiham, a David Short hat-trick and a Jack Tinning goal earning a 4-1 victory to move further away from relegation trouble.

Whitchurch Aiport fell to a 2-0 defeat to relegation-threatened West Didsbury & Chorlton, James Coombes and Lee Gavin scoring.

Joshua Nicholson’s strike gave Ashton Athletic a narrow victory over lowly Hanley Town, pushing the home side up to 13th. Barnoldswi­ck Town’s clash with 1874 Northwich was postponed and the match between Squires Gate and Silsden came to an abrupt end due to a power failure.

MIDLAND LEAGUE

SECOND-PLACED Walsall Wood were the day’s biggest winners, taking advantage of a number of shock results elsewhere.

Darren Byfield’s side were 2-1 victors at Quorn, goals from Dan Okojie and former Stourbridg­e and Solihull Moors midfielder Tom Tonks wrapping up the points. Shane Brennan scored for the hosts with all the goals coming in an entertaini­ng first half.

Leaders Ilkeston Town had a day to forget as they were thumped 4-0 at home by Coventry Sphinx who climbed into the top four. Ryan Harkin did much of the damage with a hattrick, Michael Quirke netting the other for the West Midlanders.

Westfields dropped a place to third after losing 2-1 at home to Boldmere St Michaels and another of the highflyers, Sporting Khalsa, lost 4-2 at Stourport Swifts for whom Jack Downing hit a hat-trick.

AFC Wulfrunian­s are into the top five following their 1-0 win at home to Highgate United while at the foot of the table, new boss Wayne Spicer watched his Wolves Sporting Community side share the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Worcester City.

Niall Towle and Kyle Stowell scored two goals apiece as Long Eaton United romped to a 5-1 win against Romulus while the other game to beat the rain saw Coventry United win 1-0 at Lye Town. DAVID LAWRENCE

ESSEX SENIOR

THE top-of-the-table clash between second-placed Stansted and fourth-placed Saffron Walden went the way of the visitors Stansted, who climb above postponed Hullbridge Sports to regain top spot.

In a thoroughly entertaini­ng encounter, two goals from Callum Ibe and one each from James Peagram, Jack Mitchell and Connor Hammond saw them win 5-3. Saffron Walden’s goals were an own goal and one each from Spike Bell and Lewis Francis.

Takeley are now level on points with Hullbridge, staying third, after Jason Todd’s hat-trick helped them to a 5-2 win at West Essex. Mosope Oguntuga and Alex Martin got their other goals, while Izzy Ogedi-Uzokwe and Cameron Gray replied for West Essex.

Goals from Jack Lee and Oliver Gnandi gave Hoddesden a 2-0 win at Leyton Athletic. Sawbridgew­orth also won 2-0, at home to Stanway Rovers, with Julian Lloyd and Lewis Deamer the men on target.

Enfield came from behind to win 2-1 at St Margaretsb­ury. Charncey Bash had given St Margaretsb­ury the lead but Daniel Chambers and Luke Thomas turned it round for Enfield.

Steven Carvell and Jason N-WNgandu scored to help Sporting Bengal beat Redbridge 2-1, while Tower Hamlets’ game at home to Ilford was abandoned due to bad weather. DAVID BALLHEIMER

WEST MIDLANDS REGIONAL

TOP-of-the-table Tividale suffered a rare defeat when beaten 3-1 at Bewdley Town.

Top marksman Demetri Brown bagged an early opener for the leaders but Bewdley levelled when Ollie Mulders netted a rebounded penalty before Callum Martin’s double gave them the win.

Second-placed Black Country Rangers were unable to take advantage of Tividale’s defeat as their clash with Cradley Town was called off.

Haughmond have now leapfrogge­d Black Country following a 3-0 win over Shropshire rivals AFC Bridgnorth, as in-form Steve Hole struck his second successive hat-trick.

Wolves Casuals climb to third following a 3-1 win over Wem Town, Josh Hunt took his league tally to 24 goals by netting twice in Malvern Town's 4-0 win over Shifnal Town and Dudley Town plundered a 6-2 success over next-to-bottom Pershore Town.

EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES

NEWARK Flowserve and Selston stayed locked together at the top after both sides bagged big victories.

Flowserve fired in a magnificen­t seven goals as they walloped Gedling Miners Welfare 7-1.

Danny Meadows led the spree with a hat-trick, Tyrell Shannon-Lewis lashed home two more and Jack Beckett and Elliot King also netted.

Selston downed Clipstone 5-2 thanks to a couple of goals apiece from Ben Moore and Lee Sutton after Josh Bullock had put them ahead.

The leading duo have now stretched their advantage to ten points after third-placed Sherwood Colliery suffered a shock 6-0 home defeat to Belper United.

James Rushby netted twice with Rory Baker, Ben Gowing, Louis Anthony and Sam Vickers also scoring.

Unlucky Kimberley Miners Welfare led Heanor Town 4-2 when their game was abandoned on 76 minutes.

SOUTH WEST PENINSULA

ST AUSTELL’S home game against Newquay at Poltair Park was the only Premier Division game to survive the weather and it proved to be a five-goal thriller.

The Lilywhites went 1-0 up in the first half thanks to Chris Reski’s goal, before Will Tinsley doubled their lead early after the interval.

Newquay pulled one back midway through the second half, before Olly Brokenshir­e finished off a good move to restore St Austell’s two-goal advantage.

Despite the visitors bagging another goal, the Lilywhites held on to secure a 3-2 victory that takes them up to fourth in the Premier Division table.

Two matches took place in Division One West, with Wadebridge Town winning 3-2 at Bude Town and Mousehole seeing off Dobwalls 2-0, while Division One East was a complete washout due to Saturday’s weather.
