HOLMES HAT-TRICK LIFTS MAGPIES

- By Graham Dunn

STRIKER Toby Holmes gave a masterclass in finishing as Wimborne continued their fine home form in front of another bumper crowd.

But before Holmes struck the first of his hat-trick, it was the two keepers who caught the eye.

First it was home stopper Gerard Benfield who denied Ian Traylor when played through on 18 minutes with a sprawling save, before Lewis Webb instinctively kept out Sam Davidson's bullet header from a corner, and then clawed away Luke Holmes' fierce drive heading for the top corner.

Then Holmes took centrestage. On 24 minutes Luke Holmes played him through on the left to open the scoring, and just before the interval his second came from Luke Burbidge's pass down the right.

Wimborne started the second half where they had left off in the first, and on 52 minutes Holmes completed his hat-trick, chasing down James Stokoe's lofted pass and out-pacing the visitors' defence to steer the ball past Webb.

Luke Holmes tested Webb from distance, and Franklyn Clarke fired over before the home side wrapped up the scoring, and three valuable points, on 73 minutes. Burbidge's cross from the right wing fell to Luke Holmes at the back post to volley home.
