WATERSIDERS DOWN CRESTFALLEN FLEET

BLACKFIELD & LANG 4 FLEET TOWN 1

- By Tony Croft

AFTER a shock defeat to Winchester City on New Year’s Day, Blackfield returned to winning ways on Saturday by comfortably humbling strugglers Fleet Town.

It was Fleet, however, that took the lead when, just before the stroke of half-time, a low cross from Joe Wilson found the head of Daniel Framp. He managed to flick the ball up and over a helpless Lewis Noice in the Blackfield net.

Coming out in the second half, the Watersiders looked determined to capitalise on some of their dominance in the first 45 minutes.

And in the 54th minute, they got their first goal of the game, with a deep cross from Ryan Oatley finding the head of Connor Doe at the back post, who nodded home.

It was then a case of double trouble for Fleet, who, just one minute later, found themselves 2-1 down – Adam Tomasso this time powerfully heading in an Adam Fee cross.

And in the 68th minute, it was three for Blackfield, who after some manic defending from Fleet, found Patrick Nolan four yards out with just

the keeper to beat. The forward duly obliged, slotting the ball into the net and effectively wrapping up the game.

The cherry on the cake arrived six minutes later as a corner landed on the head of Sam Poole, who managed to knock the ball back to Fatah Makhloufi, the winger hammering the past Fleet’s Harvey White.

Three points were enough to see the Watersiders end the weekend joint-top of the Division One South table, level on points with rivals Yate Town and a point ahead of Money fields – although the Hampshire side have two matches in hand.

Meanwhile, bottom-of-the-table, Fleet remain four points from safety, with Barnstaple also marooned on 10 points.
