EMBERY BAGS FOUR IN ROMP

- By Ryan Jones

JAKE Embery was the stand-out performer at the DGS Marine Stadium, netting four goals for

Herne Bay as they ran out 7-2 victors at Greenwich.

The home side didn’t help their own cause as Regan Mendes put the ball into his own net after 34 minutes to open the scoring, and his unfortunate intervention opened the floodgates.

Embery bagged his first just two minutes later but Ryan KingElliott’s goal meant the home side went in just one behind.

Despite Greenwich starting the second half on the front foot and finding an equaliser through Andrew Sessay, Embery went on to score a second-half hat trick.

The number nine scored them all within six minutes and Herne Bay romped into a 5-2 lead.

The away side weren’t done there however as Andrew Dalhouse scored after 72 minutes and Thomas Carlton completed the rout in second-half stoppage time.

A shock was on the cards early at the Mayplace Ground, but high-flying Hastings United still dropped two points in a 3-3 thriller at Phoenix Sports.

The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead after Kweku Ansah scored from a tight angle after six minutes before Lewis Clark got the second from distance shortly after.

With 20 minutes to play, Hastings staged their comeback.

Jack Dixon headed home from close range before Jordy Mongoy scored twice to complete the turnaround with three minutes left.

However, there was still time for 89th minute substitute Alex Teniola to earn and score a last-minute penalty for Phoenix.

Cray Wanderers took advantage of Hastings’ slip-up as they sealed a comfortable 2-0 victory at East Grinstead Town.

Although the hosts held out for the entire first half, Joseph Taylor and Freddie Parker grabbed Cray’s goals in 12 second-half minutes and the top side never looked threatened for the final half-hour.

The worst defence in the division conceded four more at

Sevenoaks as Faversham succumbed to a 4-1 defeat.

Frankie Sawyer struck first for the home side, before Alec Fiddes and Sawyer scored twice in two minutes just before the break to end the game as a contest.

Faversham’s Liam King scored five minutes into the second period to give the visitors brief hope, but Kenny Pogue’s goal five minutes from time gave deserved gloss to Sevenoaks’ victory.

Meanwhile, Trey Williams scored a debut goal as fourth placed Ashford beat Whitstable 2-0.

Despite Williams’ strike just before the hour, Ashford couldn’t find that vital second goal until Danny Parish’s stoppage time effort.

In the early kick-off, Rory Smith did his best to swing the game

Ramsgate’s way, but they drew 2-2 with Guernsey.

Matt Loaring opened the scoring before Rory Smith’s double pushed Ramsgate ahead before the hour.

Guernsey substitute Dave Rihoy finished with 20 minutes left, but neither side could force a winning goal.
