POWELL DELIVERS LATE ON

- By Tom Dean

AFC DUNSTABLE scored a last-minute winner to earn a 4-3 victory over Aylebusry.

Dunstable got off to the perfect start when BJ Christie fired home after two minutes and he doubled the hosts lead after half an hour.

Aylesbury were given a lifeline when a Harry Scott free-kick slipped through Connor Samson’s hands.

The visitors drew level five minutes into the second-half when Newman Carney scored in his own goal and after an hour Aylesbury took the lead when Ryan Young scored.

But back came AFC when Leon Cashman headed home on 76 minutes.

It was all set up for a last-minute winner and Martell Powell delivered when he fired home a 25yard screamer. Berkhamstead beat Dunstable Town 3-0 at home as they moved up to sixth in the league.

In a largely uneventful first half, James Towell broke the deadlock on 25 minutes converting Jonathan Lacey’s cross from the left.

In the second-half Berkhamsted moved up the gears and Lacey made it 2-0.

Soon after it was 3-0 when Towell finished off an excellent team moving again involving Lacey and Matt Bateman.

It was no more than Berkhamsted deserved as they notched up their first back to back wins of the season. Elsewhere, Kempston

Rovers beat Coleshill 2-1 after debutant Lewis Green scored an unfortunate own goal.

Izale McLeod scored from the spot to give Rovers the lead and just before half-time things got worse for Coleshill as Matt Jackson was sent off.

Ten men Coleshill went in search of points and on 52 minutes they were rewarded when Joe Halsall won the ball on the edge of Rovers’ box and fed Jordan Nadat who slid the ball under keeper Carl Knox.

A swift counter attack from Dan Clifton fed Scott Joseph and his dangerous cross was turned into the wrong net by Coventry City loanee and debutant, Lewis Green. Bromsgrove Sporting dealt Kidlington a huge blow at home as they ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.

Michael McGrath opened the scoring for Bromsgrove with a 25-yard free-kick to give Bromsgrove a slender 1-0 half-time lead at Yarnton Road.

Kidlington goalkeeper Sam Warrell suffered a shocker for the second goal as his miss-kick was pounced on by Bromsgrove skipper Richard Gregory who tucked it home.

Their third had a lot more quality about it as Joshua Quaynor dispatched a spectacular 25-yard strike and Gregory rounded off the scoring. It was heartbreak for

North Leigh who lost 2-1 in the derby clash against

Thame United with a smash and grab finish by the visitors securing all three points.

The teams went into the break level at 0-0 despite nearly a dozen chances not taken by the Millers but they deservedly broke the deadlock after 64 minutes through top goalscorer George Seacole.

Despite pushing for a second to put the game to bed it was United who scored next completely against the run of play after a free-kick on the edge of the box taken by Matt Peake-Pijnen found the top corner.

Thame United made the points theirs as they put together a counter attack four minutes later which was finished by Duran Martin for the win.

It was a stalemate at Bridge Road as Cambridge City and Barton Rovers took a point each from a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile Welwyn Garden City’s game against league leaders Peterborough Sports was postponed.

Welwyn had sought the resignation of former manager Adam Fisher due to overspending and announced on their website that they would be unable to fulfil their home fixture due to “a lack of playing strength".
