RUNAWAY league leaders Hayes & Yeading United kept up their sterling promotion push as they sealed a comfortable victory at Tooting & Mitcham United.
Midfielder Scott Donnelly tucked away two penalties in the encounter to ensure United remain five points clear of challengers Bracknell Town.
The hosts had the better chances in the opening minutes when Stefan Ilic and Morgan Griffiths saw volleys fly wide, but the clash was turned on its head when Lee Barney was felled in the area for the visitors.
Donnelly gathered the ball and stuck it to the right of keeper Luke Colquhoun midway through the first half for the opener.
And just ten minutes later, United had doubled their advantage, despite protests for a foul in the build-up, as Toby Little flew up the other end to strike at goal. The ball took a wicked deflection and flew past the stricken Tooting keeper and into the net.
But just three minutes later, Tooting were back in the game when striker Hady Gandour was fouled in the area – enabling Daryl Coleman to convert seven minutes before half-time.
The Terrors’ resurgence didn’t last long however and Hayes had the chance to add another from the penalty spot when Scott Bridges was pushed over. Donnelly once again stepped up and rifled the ball into the bottom left corner to seal the points in the 49th minute.
The hosts were unable to continue their strong form from before the break, as they struggled to create chances in front of the 269 strong crowd at the KNK Stadium.
It leaves them in ninth place but Hanwell Town and Bedfont Sports are just one point behind after they grabbed victories this weekend.
