Leiston see off late comeback

- By Craig Cooper

LEISTON defeated St Neots Town at Victory Road to gain another three points.

Kyle Hammond fired wide a free-kick after just two minutes in the first chance.

Gary Wharton was then put through on goal but he dragged his shot wide of Marcus Garnham’s post.

A decent cross from Joe Jefford was met by Harry Knights but his header hit the post. Harry Knights then recieved a straight red card for a foul on Jordan NorvilleWilliams but this didn’t affect the hosts.

Captain Tom Bullard headed against the crossbar, before Patrick Brothers gave the home side the lead after a great run and finish.

Byron Lawrence had a close range effort saved by Finlay Iron and Joe Jefford nodded just wide.

Just six minutes into the second period, Devante Stanley was red carded.

Christy Finch fired a long range shot just wide, but Noel Aitkens finished off a great move to double Leiston’s lead on 57 minutes.

Seb Dunbar’s run from the left flank ended with the left back narrowly putting the ball off target.

Leiston dominated the remainder although St Neots could have scored in the final minute but Wharton was denied by a good Marcus Garnham save, but it was too little to late.
