The Non-League Football Paper

Southern softies for match data

-

I’M a follower of Harrow Borough, a club who, during the reorganisation of summer 2018, were switched from the Isthmian to the Southern League.

Concerns about the costs of travelling were assuaged by some terrific fundraising efforts and with that worry lessened, the club has really been enjoying Southern League life.

Opposition followers have, to a man (and woman) been friendly folk, and the football itself has been very entertaining. We’re also having our best campaign for years which must help.

But there’s one area where the Southern is way behind the Isthmian and that is in enabling followers to become updated with goings-on elsewhere, both during and immediately after the game. The Isthmian League used Football Web

Pages. It’s very easy to administer and provides anyone interested with immediate information on scores, scorers, red cards, etc, at all the other games. Indeed member clubs faced fines if they did not use this web service.

But the Southern League are simply not interested. Instead they want to impose on member clubs a clunky, very hard-to-operate Matchday App. In trialling it, no one at any club I’ve spoken to is finding it simple to use, and would much prefer to use Football Web Pages.

So come on Southern League, get your heads out of the sand and use a tried-and-tested,easy to use and popular method to add to your spectators’ matchday experience. SIMON GRIGOR via email
