GEORGIOU SAVES KINGS

Loanee is the Langley hero as last-gasp penalty salvages draw

- By Dill Butcher

ON-LOAN Andonicos Georgiou netted a late penalty on his debut to secure a richly deserved point for Langley who have now lost just two from their last 13.

Jermaine Howe put the visitors ahead before the game was spun on its head by Calvin Brooks and Brandon Goodship.

But Georgiou had the last say and boss Steve Conroy was more than happy to take a point away from the south coast but believed his side were well worth their draw.

“It would have been a travesty after our first half performance if we hadn’t taken anything away from here,” he said.

“Our passing and movement was excellent first half and Georgiou really should have netted a second late in the half.

“The game quickened up in the second half and it was a shame we couldn’t see out the first 15 minutes but we deserved another point from a top four side.”

The first half had been lukewarm at best until the visitors stunned the home crowd with an opener ten minutes before the break.

Burly Jermaine Howe appeared to have the freely dom of the box as he met a perfectly flighted Mitchell Weiss centre with a perfectly guided header into the top corner.

Then, six minutes later, it should have been 2-0 when Georgiou played a neat interchange with Mitchell Weiss but the former saw his shot expert- blocked by home debutant stopper Chris Lewington.

The hosts had offered very little, their best chance falling to another making his debut, Cameron Murray, who shot straight at Alex Tokarcyk on 14 minutes when positioned to do better.

The Terras unsurprisingly were quick out of the blocks in the second half and drew level just four minutes in when Murray slipped in Brooks who smashed home inside the near post via a slight deflection.

On the hour, Georgiou’s fierce effort was beaten away by Lewington but it was Weymouth who were to edge in front when Brooks clipped in a centre that Tokarcyk spilled and there was Goodship to volley home.

It looked as though that goal would be enough for the hosts to take all three points from the contest.

However, it wasn’t to be enough as Langley found a leveller right at the death from the penalty spot.

A swift move across the box ended with Brooks clipping Claudio Ofosu before Georgiou confidently converted from 12 yards.

With just seconds remaining tempers began to flare and there was an unsavoury end to the game as referee Nigel Whitfield had to dish out a flurry of yellow cards after Josh Wakefield had poleaxed Louie Collier to spark a large-scale pushing and shoving match.
