Swans gutted by 14th straight loss

- By Steve Parsons

STAINES’ despair continued after several glimmers of hope were extinguished before slumping to their 14th successive defeat.

The deadlock in a keenly contested first half with Wimborne was almost broken when home defender Jordan Harrison miscued a clearance against his bar.

Soon after, Staines took a 37th minute lead, Gabriel Piorkowski breaking on the right and threading the ball to Luca Charles-Valentine, who drew keeper Gerard Benfield and found the far corner of the net.

Parity was restored when a 56th minute foul just outside the box allowed Wimborne skipper Billy Maybury to crash home a free kick.

But Staines were back in front just two minutes later, their own captain Gradi Milenge powering home a header from a Lewis Lavender free kick.

Luke Burbidge had only been on the field nine minutes when he set up Wimborne’s second equaliser, Matty Oldring’s glancing header to the substitute’s long diagonal finding the net on 66 minutes.

Burbidge was jubilant to score Wimborne’s third from close range in 71 minutes, having dribbled the ball into an overcrowded box.

A rash challenge by Maybury reduced the visitors to ten men late on but they still found time for a fourth goal, Tobias Holmes capitalising on a clearance to score. STAR MAN: Luke Burbidge (Wimborne) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
