PEACOCKS HOLD ON FOR LOCAL HONOURS

- By Martin Dongworth

TAUNTON completed the double over their Hampshire opponents but it was anything but straightforward.

In fact, Gosport went ahead in the first minute when a Patrick Suraci free-kick was headed in by Samuel Lanahan.

Taunton eventually settled down and a shot after eight minutes by top scorer Andrew Neal was well saved by visiting keeper Pat O’Flaherty.

Six minutes later the equalizer came and it was courtesy of a well drilled left foot shot by Lewis Hall, who had also scored at Gosport earlier in the season.

Gosport came back and another Suraci free kick led to a header by Matthew Weaire which was wel saved by Chandler Hallett, making his final appearance before returning to Colchester.

Both sides continued to attack and Taunton defender Ben Adelsbury was unlucky to see his header hit the bar.

Brett had better luck with a free-kick in firsthalf injury time when it went straight into the net.

Ollie Chamberlain increased Taunton’s lead after 66 minutes with a scissor kick which gave O’Flaherty no chance.

Taunton’s first choice keeper Lloyd Irish replaced Hallett at half time and he nearly made a name for himself but couldn’t quite save Pennery’s penalty. STAR MAN: Patrick Suraci (Gosport Borough) ENTERTAINMENT: ★★★★★
