TOP 10 ARE LET GO BY BLUES DUO

- By Neil Harvey

JOINT managers Ber- nard Morley and Anthony Johnson have begun their summer clearout at Chester following last week’s play-off defeat.

The Blues, beaten 3-2 at Altrincham in a tense eliminator on Sunday, have released no fewer than ten players from the club with attentions now already turned to the 202021 National League North campaign.

Akwasi Asante, last season’s leading scorer, departed for Gloucester City last month, while goalkeeper Russ Griffiths has joined league rivals AFC Telford United.

Elsewhere, Iwan Murray has dropped to Step 4 and joined Runcorn Linnets, while Cain Noble has opted to study and play his football at Loughborough University. Matty Thomson has been training with Curzon Ashton.

They join Theo Roberts, Elton Ngwatala, George Macready, James Cottrell and Harry Molyneux in leaving the club.

Chairman Andy Morris told the club’s official website: “This is always a difficult time for all concerned but even more so this year as we contend with the impact of COVID-19 and the uncertain footballing landscape.

“On behalf of everyone at the football club, we would like to place on record our gratitude to those players leaving us for their effort and commitment during their time at Chester FC.”

Under contract for next season are George Glendon, Kevin Roberts, Joel Taylor, Brad Jackson, John Johnston, Lloyd Marsh-Hughes and Will Goodwin, while the Blues have an option on rightback Jamie Morgan.

Co-boss Johnson added: “We’ll be making sure that we are ready and we already have a great basis of a squad to build on, we just feel we need to add in one or two areas.”
