REMI STUNNER SHOCKS HAWKS

- By Ian Barham

REMI Nelson netted a screamer as Rom- ford came from behind to stun Harlow Town.

Harlow had deservedly gone ahead with half an hour played, before the visitors pegged them back before half-time and won it late on.

Harlow went closest to taking the lead in the opening minutes. Ahmet Biler’s run from his own half continued as the Romford defence backed off, and his shot from 20 yards out grazed the top of the crossbar as a warning.

The Hawks opened the scoring on 30 minutes. Player-coach Dave Collis delivered a tantalising cross from the right wing to Christian Adu Gyamfi, who arrived to volley home from six yards out.

Two minutes before halftime the visitors equalised with a potential goal of the season contender, before the season has even properly begun!

A cross from the right wing was cleared by the Harlow defence to only just beyond the edge of the area. Romford’s Nelson connected with a delightful left-footed volley that flew into the top corner.

After the break both sides went close. The visitors nearly took the lead when a curling effort was tipped around the post, before Warren Kayembe’s header was held by the Romford stopper at the near post.

With just five minutes remaining Romford went ahead. Harlow lost possession on the halfway line, and, after a swift break down the left, a cross found Lee Newton in front of goal and his deflected shot looped over Rob Budd.
